2-Zara issues in Drakoria in Chains of Treachery

Context: Zara (27–42) struggles with governance—drought, noble resistance, Eldorian border tensions—while her goddess persona deepens into belief. She marries Kael (990 A.Y.), but paranoia after their son Zorath’s birth (995 A.Y.) leads to Kael’s murder (996 A.Y.), severing her idealism. She invades Norgard (1000 A.Y.), breaking the pact. The secret alliance with Solon forms post-invasion, setting up Book 3’s twist.

  • Governance and Paranoia:
    • Drought starves Drakoria, and nobles defy Zara’s reforms, questioning her godhood. Eldorian trade taxes spark raids (991–993 A.Y.), which she curbs, writing to Alaric, but her lords scorn Eldoria’s Silver Oak.
    • She marries Kael (990 A.Y., age 32), her lowborn friend, to secure an heir without losing power. Zorath’s birth (995 A.Y.) strengthens her Iron Sun, but nobles praise Kael, fueling paranoia that he or Zorath could usurp her. She kills Kael (996 A.Y.), staging it as treason, declaring herself “Mother of the Sun.”
  • Norgard Invasion: Drought, noble pressure, and a false rumor (998 A.Y.) that the Crown lies in Norgard’s tundra push Zara to invade (1000 A.Y.). Her Dragon’s Breath burns Clanmeet, killing Torvald, who clutches his Frost Wolf rune stone. Solon secretly supplies ships, framed as opportunistic aid to exploit Norgard’s fall, not a formal alliance.
  • Impact on Others:
    • Alaric: Zara’s invasion devastates his faith in the pact, his Silver Oak rallying Eldoria for defense, unaware of Solon’s role.
    • Marcus: Her aggression exposes his failed Aegean deal, his Azure Quill tarnished, oblivious to the secret pact.
    • Torvald: Zara’s betrayal kills him, his Frost Wolf legacy fueling Norgard’s resistance, unaware of Solon’s complicity.
    • Solon: His secret aid to Zara (ships, intelligence) strengthens Aegea’s Golden Wave,
